1971 Princess Mimi di Niscemi Frog Pendant Necklace
Rare, whimsical, and utterly captivating — this extraordinary frog pendant necklace is a true collector's obsession. Conceived in 1971 by the legendary Princess Mimi di Niscemi, a titled Italian aristocrat and celebrated jewelry designer, this piece drips with old-world glamour and eccentric luxury.
Cast in opulent bright gold with a richly textured finish, the three-dimensional frog commands attention at 2.5" wide and 2" tall, its eyes smoldering with jade green glass cabochons. A braided chain link cradles the pendant with effortless elegance, fastened with a shepherd's hook closure. Two oval plaques on the reverse are inscribed with Mimi di N and 1971 — a signed, dated work of wearable art.
Condition: Excellent. Only the most discerning eye will detect the faintest trace of wear on the pendant ring — hidden beneath the connector links and invisible when worn.
The Legend Behind the Jewel: Born in Palermo to a dynasty of jewelers and cousin to the iconic Fulco di Verdura, Princess Mimi di Niscemi brought European aristocracy to American adornment. She studied at the Philadelphia Museum School, designed for Schiaparelli, Arnold Scaasi, and Robert DeMario, and launched her own New York atelier in 1962. In 1968, she was honored with the Great Design in Costume Jewelry Award. Production ceased upon her retirement in 1995 — making every signed piece a finite treasure.
